Cookie Policy

Last updated: March 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, how Atlas & Ivy ("we," "us") uses them on this website, and how you can manage your preferences.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work as expected, to improve performance, and to provide information to the website owner.

Cookies cannot run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. They are uniquely assigned to your browser and can only be read by the web server that created them.

2. Cookies We Use

We use a small number of cookies — only what's necessary to operate the site and, with your consent, to understand how people use it.

Cookie Name Purpose Category Duration
gla_consent Stores your cookie consent preferences — whether you've accepted or declined analytics cookies. Required for the consent banner to work correctly. Necessary 365 days
_ga Google Analytics cookie. Distinguishes unique visitors by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier. Analytics 2 years
_ga_* Google Analytics session cookie. Used to persist session state across page loads and track session-level metrics. Analytics 2 years

Necessary Cookies

Necessary cookies enable core functionality that the site cannot operate without. These include your consent preference cookie (gla_consent). You cannot opt out of necessary cookies, but they do not track you for marketing or analytics purposes.

Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site — which pages are popular, where people come from, and how they navigate. This helps us improve the experience.

Analytics cookies are not loaded until you give consent via our cookie consent banner. If you choose "Necessary Only," no analytics cookies are ever set. If you later change your mind, you can update your preferences at any time via the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer.

If you revoke analytics consent, we will not set analytics cookies on your future visits. Existing analytics cookies in your browser can be cleared manually through your browser settings.

3. Browser Storage (Not Cookies)

In addition to cookies, we use your browser's sessionStorage for certain temporary data. Unlike cookies, sessionStorage is never sent to our servers — it lives entirely in your browser and is deleted automatically when you close the tab.

We use sessionStorage for:

  • Quiz state: As you move through the school match quiz, your answers are temporarily saved in sessionStorage so you don't lose progress if you navigate between steps. This data is only transmitted to our servers when you click "See My Matches."
  • UTM parameters: When you arrive via a marketing link with UTM tracking parameters (e.g., from a Google ad or an email campaign), those parameters are saved in sessionStorage and included in your quiz submission. This helps us understand which marketing channels are working. UTM parameters are session-scoped — they are cleared when you close your browser tab.

We do not use localStorage (which persists indefinitely across browser sessions) for any user data.

4. Third-Party Cookies

If you consent to analytics, Google Analytics may set cookies on your device. These are governed by Google's own privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy

Google offers a browser add-on to opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

We do not use third-party advertising cookies, social media tracking cookies, or any cookies for behavioral advertising.

5. How to Manage Your Cookie Preferences

On This Site

Use the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of any page to update your preferences at any time. You can accept or decline analytics cookies whenever you choose.

In Your Browser

Most browsers allow you to view, block, and delete cookies through their settings. Here's how to access cookie settings in popular browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data

Note: Blocking all cookies may affect the functionality of some websites, including this one. Blocking the gla_consent cookie means the consent banner will re-appear on every visit.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
